I Knit Weekender

This weekend (11th and 12th September 2009) I will be knitting with the Outcasts at I Knit’s big weekender.

You can find us in the knit lounge. We’re going to be knitting hats for Innocent’s ‘The BIG knit’ campaign so come and join us for a natter and knit a hat.

India

I’m back from my travels in Ladakh India. We had amazing time in remote villages knitting in the sunshine with the locals. We developed a range of knitted protoypes which included hand knitted yaks, snowleopards, Ibex and sheep and taught the villagers how to knit them so that they can sell them along the tourist trekking routes.

Our trip was an amazing experience – awesome landscapes, friendly people, outragously dangerous roads, wonderful food and delightful weather. I took a ton of photographs and I’m sure this trip will have an impact upon my design work. Watch this space.

Knitting with Altitude

This Summer I am going to India on an internship with UNESCO – (United Nations Educational, Scientific Organisation) and the Snow Leopard Conservancy Trust.

I will be based in Leh in the Himalayas and will trek with the Snow Leopard Trust to nearby villages in Ladakh. The purpose of my trip is to collaborate with Ladakhi villagers to develop design ideas for hand knitted products with a contemporary appeal. Working with traditional designs, patterns and natural yarns, our role will be to help improve the quality of the knitted handicrafts which will benefit villagers living along the tourist trekking routes.
