Come and visit us at Selvedge Winter Fair Sat 10th November – THIS WEEKEND 10 am to 4 pm

We are exhibiting at the Selvedge Winter Fair this weekend 10th November at Chelsea Old Town Hall from 10am to 4pm. My lovely friend Sue will be there to help out as my glamourous and crafty assistant so please pop by and say hello.

This is what Selvedge says about the fair:

After three successful years the Selvedge Fair has outgrown its North London venue. Much as we loved its old school charm, this year we are swapping ‘the church hall next door’ for the beautiful Chelsea Old Town Hall. Our new central location offers the convenience of easy transport links and a host of textile related venues to visit, including the V&A Museum, making this the ideal opportunity for a weekend in London.

The Selvedge Winter Fair will retain its friendly atmosphere but offer visitors 100 stands with a carefully curated mix of antique textiles, talented designer makers and beautiful haberdashery. Exhibitors include Selvedge’s long standing favourites Julie Arkell, Tamara Fogel, Abigail Brown, Maiko Dawson and Åsa Pärson Textiles from Sweden. We are also delighted to introduce – new to the Selvedge Fair – The Marston House from Maine, USA, John Gillow and Jane Sacchi Antique Linens.

Whether searching for gifts, decorations and accessories – or the materials to make their own – visitors will be able to begin, and possibly complete, their Christmas preparations at the SelvedgeWinter Fair.

Winter Fair, Saturday 10November 2012 at Chelsea Old Town Hall, King’s Road, London, SW3 5EE. Open to the public from10am-4pm. Entrance £5.

Wool is cool! – Wool Week 15th to 21st Oct – Campaign for Wool

Image

Wool Week is here – Look out for various events happening around the UK this week to recognise the wonderful fibre that is wool.

Check out the Campaign for Wool website to see if there is an event near you.

http://www.campaignforwool.org/

Wool is a magical fibre and different sheep breeds will provide different fleece qualities to suit fashion or interior products.

To celebrate wool week, I thought I would share some wooly facts with you:

  • Merino is one of the most well-know sheep breeds, famed for its softness and durability. A Merino Sheep has a dense fleece. The fibres on a Merino fleece is closely packed and guarded by a thick coat of grease. This means that the tips of the fleece is weathered but dirt and grime does not get into the main bulk of the yarn, making it easier for the spinner to scour and clean to produce a wonderfully soft yarn.
  • My scarves made in collaboration with Tait and Style are made from yarn spun from Extrafine Italian Merino of a medium fineness of less than 19.5 micron.

  • My new cushions are made from the fibre of a Shetland Sheep. See first photo on the blog. They are super cute!
  • The yarn for my cushions is spun in a mill in Scotland. The yarn is lambswool  and uses a blend of the ‘First Clip’. The ‘First Clip’ is the very first clip a lamb produces which is super soft. Image
  • Morrit, fawn, mioget, musket, emsket and shaela are some of the Shetland words to describe the natural shades of a Shetland Sheep fleece.

Happy wool week!

New Stockist for Autumn/Winter 2012-13

It’s been fun dropping off new work to new stockists. The latest stockists are Liscious in Oxford and WCD – Walter Castellazzo Design in Highgate, London. Both venues are stocking Emma’s painted scarves and her latest designs –  100% wool painted cushions.

The cushions are made from 100% soft lambwool spun in a Scottish Mill. Once knitted by Emma in her studio, they are hand painted using a special textile print process which strips the colour from the yarn.  The combination of the hand print and wash process creates a unique cushion with a colourful painterly effect which distorts the regularity of the knitted stripe.

Watch this space for new stockists. Cushions and scarves will be available at the following shows later this year: The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair – Manchester 4th to the 7th Oct, Festival of Crafts – Farnham 20th and 21st October and The Selvedge Winter Fair – London 10th November.

…and don’t forget items are still available at Handmade in the Oracle Shopping Centre – Reading until the 1st November.
